Bitou Busters give the nature beds along the John Davis Walk on Sanderling Ave
a May make-over
On the morning of Friday 12 May we held our first mid-month meeting session to augment our regular fourth Saturday meetings and hopefully achieve more regeneration outcomes over our 8 month annual season.
Our first session saw us weed and define the boundaries of five beds - there are around 12 beds in total, but the number seemed to increase as we made our way from one to the next. It's quite a long avenue!
A second session was needed the following Friday as Mid Coast Council had promptly delivered some mulch for us to spread on the beds. I was away that week but Jane Collison very capably organised a good crew armed with spades, buckets and barrows and they had all the mulch distributed within 2 hours!
Once again Council provided more mulch - this time enough to easily complete the entire twelve beds. It took us two more sessions - including our usual Saturday one on 27 May and a follow-up to complete the job on Monday 29th.
The rejuvenated beds look wonderful and have attracted a lot of compliments.
Over the month 28 BB volunteers answered the call to arms, with more than half that number able to attend multiple sessions. Altogether we accumulated 103 hours volunteer work for the month!
A tremendous effort and very impressive response. A big thank you to everyone involved.
