Reporting a koala in MCC region

To report a koala in the MidCoast region, use the MidCoast Council's website to submit sightings via their online koala reporting form, or contact a local wildlife rescue organization for injured koalas. The data collected helps MidCoast Council's ecologists monitor koala locations and inform the prioritization of strategies to prevent vehicle strike and protect koala populations.

How to Report a Koala in the MidCoast Region
  1. Visit the MidCoast Council website: Go to www.midcoast.nsw.gov.au/koalasafespaces.
2.    Find the Koala Safe Spaces page: Navigate to the section for reporting koalas.
  1. Submit the online form: Use the online koala reporting form to report sightings of both living and dead koalas.
Why is reporting important?
  • Data Collection:
The information collected is vital for understanding koala locations and movements.
  • Informing Decision-Making:
This data helps government agencies and ecologists to make better decisions for koala conservation.
  • Preventing Vehicle Strike:
Reporting sightings helps to identify "hot spots" where koalas are often found, allowing for targeted vehicle strike prevention strategies.
If you find an injured koala:
  • Call a local wildlife rescue immediately .
  • For MidCoast residents, you can also call the general number for NSW wildlife rescue groups.
