A bright, calm morning after a very wet week made perfect conditions for a little “weed therapy” along Moira Parade.
Nine hardy BB volunteers spread out along the river embankment, working to free the precious remnant bush strip from an assortment of invasive weeds, including Mother of Millions, Asparagus fern species, bulb species, and the monstrous Cape honeysuckle.
The Cape honeysuckle, a garden escapee from South Africa, has really taken hold opposite the Langi Street intersection. Peter, Anne and I tackled this invader head-on. While the results were impressive, there’s still more to be done!
In the photo above, Jane appears to be competing for the prize of “largest Mother of Millions bag” — Anita and Gordon may be requesting official measurements! 😉
After a productive session, the team enjoyed a well-earned coffee and chat at Benchmark.
I’ll be away for three weeks, but if you feel inspired to pull a few weeds in the meantime — here or at another site — please do! Just remember to stay sun-safe, hydrated, and well protected.
